Decisions from the Meeting

So, last Sunday was the first meeting. Attendance at the meeting was disappointing, to say the least. However, the few of us that were there did come to some decisions.

Season and Format
  • The season will consist of 12 weeks, starting on June 9th at noon and continuing each Sunday at noon through August 25th.
  • The format will consist of 4 randomly drawn players throwing together each week. This seems the best way to mix people up and get the inexperienced players and experienced players together.
  • We will play short tee, par 3 for all holes.
Points and Participation
  • To encourage consistent participation, each week players will be awarded points. The best score of the week will be awarded 11 points, the next best score will receive 9 points, and so on down the line. Just showing up, playing and paying the weekly fee will earn 1 point, regardless of your score. Scores will be handicapped for parity.
  • In order to allow flexibility and still encourage participation, 8 weeks of participation is required to qualify for cash payouts at the end of the season. Any weather related postponements will be made up after the regular season, if necessary.
Fees
  • $5 per player per week. All fees will be paid out as prize money at the end of the season.
  • Optional $1 ace pool. Anyone interested can put a dollar in the ace pool. The first person to throw an ace collects the prize. This rolls over every week. If no one throws an ace the cash will go toward season-ending payouts.
  • Fees and scorecards will be collected at Shenanigan's on 22nd after play concludes each week. Any player not returning to the bar will not have their scores or points recorded for that week.
  • Every player returning to the bar will receive one (1) courtesy drink after the purchase of their first drink.

So that's where we are right now. I'd still like to get some solid confirmations/commitment from people that are interested in playing, and to get a player contact list set up. Also, a few of us are going to meet at the Hillcrest course for a little intro and mini-clinic on May 5th at noon (weather permitting). Any one interested is welcome!

Welcome to Shenanigan's Disc Golf League!

As of this posting I have just started exploring the level of interest for such a league. Hopefully there will be enough interest to get this off the ground.

I'll be using this blog to keep everyone up to date on the league on-goings. I'll be posting weekly scores, handicaps and other information pertaining to the league here.

Here are my plans for the league right now:
  • League format will be best-shot doubles. This is to encourage novice and inexperienced players.
  • Two- person teams, throwing in foursomes.
  • $5 weekly league fees per person. 100% of the league fees will be used for payouts at the end of the season.
  • Optional $1 ace pot.
  • Rounds will be played on one or both UW-Parkside courses.
If there is enough interest the league could be expanded to two or more leagues or divisions. Also, if there is any demand, I will put together an adult/youth league for anyone with kids that would like to try out the sport. In addition to the leagues (and, again, depending on the level of interest) I will offer free clinics, covering a number of disc golf topics, including: equipment, form & technique, strategy, etiquette and other topics. These clinics will be held in the weeks before league play begins.

Any other details regarding the league(s) will be discussed/addressed at the league meeting, tentatively scheduled for 04/21 at 11:00 AM at Shenanigan's on 22nd Ave.

Any questions that you may have can be posted in the comments section below.
